As a Primary School, we are aware of the importance of teacher and pupil knowledge and understanding of Phonics as one mechanism to aid spelling and reading. We are therefore engaged in the Read Write Inc Programme and receive whole-staff training on the teaching and learning of Phonics within our school.

When the children arrive in Year 3, they are assessed against the Read Write Inc Assessment materials and any gaps in phonics are addressed in an appropriate way so that they can catch up quickly. This might be whole class or small groups depending on outcomes of assessments.
